|Gulf Insurance Limited has traded successfully as an Indigenous Caribbean Insurer in the Eastern Caribbean from the early days of its formation in 1974. The company is domiciled in Trinidad & Tobago and has gradually and deliberately expanded geographically, as opportunities have presented themselves. Gulf Insurance Limited is legally established and currently provides Property and Casualty Insurance services in Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Turks & Caicos, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Nevis, St Kitts, St Lucia, St Maarten (including Saba and St Eustatius), St Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States Virgin Islands. Through our Head office in Port of Spain, Trinidad, we also service a network of Agencies and Branches. This Insurance distribution network is closely monitored by a technical team from our Head office where most underwriting and claims decisions are made. |
With the change in the ownership of Gulf in the first quarter of 2006, various new opportunities have been made available to us, which we consider as important forerunners to the further growth and development of Gulf Insurance Limited. Without losing sight of our traditionally conservative and prudent approach to the technical management of the company, we believe that this additional geographical spread is in our best interest. However, we recognize that any growth needs to be carefully managed in an effort to maintain our reputation as a prime Insurance Company in the region.
Emphasis is placed on securing the right talent and resources for the Company and by the addition of Gerrard Lee-Inniss and Jeffrey Montano, we have acquired considerable Caribbean- wide and much-valued International Reinsurance experience into Gulf. Both of these individuals were responsible for creating and managing the largest Property and Casualty portfolio in the Caribbean, measured both in terms of premium income and geographic spread. In the main, Gulf's operations are managed by staff with proven experience and ability and this is demonstrated by the positive results achieved over the years. It is our intention, having recognized the growth possibilities, to also expand our technical team at Head office with additional staffing of persons who enjoy a broad Caribbean underwriting and claims experience.
Gulf Insurance also recognizes the importance of managing information and to this end, has recently employed a new Information Technology Manager to spearhead the Company's I.T. solution. In the area of technical proficiency and competencies, most of the staff at Gulf have completed professional training in Insurance and other disciplines and will use this knowledge to further staff training in the Company. Such training is seen as necessary to maximize the research and development capabilities, using more efficiently the increased access to data that improved IT brings.
We are also committed to pursuing prudential Underwriting standards to guarantee a strong and vibrant Insurance operation for the benefit of all stakeholders - Clients, Staff and Shareholders. To this end, we continue to build strong/lasting relationships on the basis of qualified service, timely delivery and by maintaining a strong financial position to ensure the fair and prompt settlement of all legitimate claims. The A.M. Best "A-" (Excellent) Rating awarded to Gulf represents the culmination of an exercise by the internationally recognized A.M. Best Company Limited, established since the 1890's - to assess the financial strength and business tenacity of the company. Our commitment is to maintain this rating for the total security of our policyholders.
